About gonic

gonic is a small, fast music streaming server written in Go that implements the Subsonic API, so any Subsonic-compatible app on phones and desktops can browse and play your collection. It deliberately has no rich web player of its own; it is a backend with a basic admin page. Features include browsing by folder or by tags, transcoding and caching through ffmpeg, a jukebox mode for gapless playback on the server's own speakers, podcast downloading, multiple music folders, per-user playlists and preferences, and scrobbling to Last.fm and ListenBrainz. It scans quickly even for large libraries and runs comfortably on low-power hardware or in Docker. It is free software under the GPL v3. The minimalism is the point, but it means you rely entirely on third-party clients, and documentation is mostly the project README.

Best for: Minimalists who want a tiny Subsonic backend and already have a favourite client app.
