About Ampache

Ampache is a web-based audio and video streaming server and file manager that has been developed as free software since 2001. You host it yourself, point it at local or remote catalogs, and listen through its web player or any of many compatible clients. Its distinguishing feature is protocol breadth: the same catalog is served over Ampache's own API, a Subsonic and OpenSubsonic backend, a Jellyfin-compatible backend, DAAP for iTunes-style clients and UPnP/DLNA, so apps such as Symfonium, Finamp or DSub all work against one server. It also handles podcasts, internet radio, video, smart playlists and Localplay control of other players. It is licensed under the AGPL v3 and installs via Docker or a PHP release package. There is nothing to buy. The trade-offs are an older-feeling web interface and a PHP plus database setup that is heavier than single-binary servers like Navidrome.

Best for: Self-hosters who want one music server that works with Subsonic, Jellyfin, DAAP and DLNA clients.
