About GreyNoise

GreyNoise runs a large network of sensors that record the mass scanning and exploitation traffic hitting the internet, and turns it into intelligence about the IP addresses behind it. Security analysts use it to tell whether an IP in their alerts is a known scanner, a benign service like a search engine crawler, or part of an active attack campaign, which cuts down time spent on noise. It offers IP lookups, a query language, tags for specific vulnerabilities and tools, activity timelines, dynamic blocklists and data on which CVEs are being exploited right now. Paid customers buy a platform tier plus intelligence modules such as triage, investigation, hunting or vulnerability prioritisation, and get integrations with SIEM, SOAR, threat intelligence platforms and firewalls. A free community tier allows basic lookups with a weekly search limit. It works through the web interface and API. It suits SOC teams and researchers triaging alerts and prioritising patching.

Best for: SOC teams and security researchers who want to filter scanner noise and spot active exploitation.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Separates harmless scanners from real attack traffic
  • Live data on which vulnerabilities are being exploited
  • Free community tier for basic IP lookups
  • Paid tiers include SIEM, SOAR and firewall integrations

Why people leave

  • Paid pricing is not published
  • Free tier has a low weekly search limit
  • Only sees traffic that reaches its sensors, not full exposure data
