About Hurl
Hurl is a command-line tool from Orange that runs HTTP requests written in a simple plain-text format. Each file lists requests one after another, and you can add assertions on status codes, headers, JSON paths, XPath and timing, capture values such as tokens to reuse in later requests, and use variables and templates. That makes it handy both for quick manual calls and for integration tests of REST, SOAP, GraphQL or HTML endpoints in CI, where it outputs JUnit, TAP and HTML reports. It is built in Rust on top of libcurl, so it is fast and supports the same protocols and options curl does. Hurl is free and open source under the Apache 2.0 licence, and installs on Linux, macOS, Windows and FreeBSD through common package managers, Docker or npm. The trade-offs are that there is no graphical interface and teams need to be comfortable reviewing tests as text files. It suits developers and DevOps engineers who want readable API tests in version control.
Best for: Developers who want readable, plain-text API tests that run in CI.
