About Language Transfer
Language Transfer is a free project by teacher Mihalis Eleftheriou that offers audio courses in which you listen to a teacher working with a real student. Instead of memorising phrases, you are guided to build sentences yourself by understanding how the language works and how it connects to English, which makes grammar feel logical early on. The Complete Spanish course is the best known, with other courses for languages such as French, German, Italian, Greek, Turkish, Arabic and Swahili, at varying lengths. There are no ads, no sign-ups and no data collection; the project runs on donations. It has an app and the audio is also on YouTube and SoundCloud. The limits are scope and format: courses are audio-only, cover beginner to lower-intermediate structure, and add little vocabulary, reading or conversation. Language Transfer suits self-learners who want to understand a language rather than memorise it.
Best for: Self-learners who want to understand how a language works before memorising it.
