About Memrise
Memrise teaches the words and phrases people actually say, using thousands of short clips of native speakers filmed in the places where the language is spoken. Each item follows a hear it, learn it, copy it routine: watch the clip, review it with spaced repetition, then record yourself and compare. It also offers private AI conversation practice and courses for a wide range of languages, from Spanish and Japanese to smaller ones. You can start for free, and a paid plan unlocks more lessons and features. Memrise used to host huge numbers of community-made courses; those have been moved off the main app, which disappointed some long-time users. It is light on grammar explanations, so it works best as a vocabulary and listening companion to a structured course. It runs on iOS, Android and the web.
Best for: Learners who want to hear and copy how native speakers really talk.
