About Ling

Ling, sometimes called Ling App, uses short game-like lessons, flashcards, quizzes, dialogues and an AI chatbot to teach dozens of languages, including many that the big apps ignore, such as Thai, Khmer, Tagalog, Lao and other Southeast Asian and Eastern European languages. Lessons use native-speaker audio and are organised into units for beginners. It is made by Simya Solutions, a small company that also built a dedicated Thai app. The free tier gives the first units for each language, and monthly, annual or lifetime plans unlock the rest, with a trial on annual plans. Depth varies by language: some courses are thin and the format won't take you past beginner or lower-intermediate level. It runs on iOS, Android and the web. Ling suits travellers and heritage learners who need basics in a language other apps don't offer.

Best for: Travellers and heritage learners who need basics in a less common language.
