About Meron

Meron is a young email client built around a calmer way of reading mail. Each thread is shown as a chat-style conversation, all accounts land in one unified inbox, and you can lay mail out on a kanban board whose columns can be driven by saved, Gmail-style searches. Attachments from a thread are gathered into a visual gallery, and recent releases added a local calendar with inline invitation replies. It is local-first: messages are kept on your device rather than on the developer's servers, and the source is published under the AGPL-3.0 licence. The app is free, with no paid tier listed. It runs on macOS, Windows and Linux (including Flathub, Snap and AppImage builds) and has iOS and Android apps. It suits people who like the chat-like feel of Spike or the board view of some task tools but want an open-source client. Because it is still at an early version number, expect rough edges and fewer power features than long-established clients.

Best for: People who want a free, open-source mail app with chat-style threads and a kanban view.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Kanban board view whose columns can be built from saved searches
  • Local-first storage and AGPL-licensed source code
  • Apps for all three desktop systems plus iOS and Android
  • Free with no paid tier

Why people leave

  • Early 0.x releases, so expect missing features and bugs
  • Chat-style threads may feel odd for long formal email
  • Small project from a single company, with a short track record
