About Moises

Moises is an app for musicians that splits any song into separate stems, such as vocals, drums, bass, guitar and keys, so you can mute the part you play, solo the one you're learning or make a karaoke track. Around the separation engine it adds practice tools: chord detection, tempo and pitch changes without affecting each other, a metronome, lyric transcription and section looping. Newer additions include performance video recording and Moises Studio, a browser-based space where bandmates can arrange and record the same session together. It runs on the web, as a desktop app, on iPhone and iPad, and on Android, with uploads synced across them. The free tier allows a limited number of uploads each month with basic features; paid subscriptions unlock unlimited uploads, more stem types and higher quality models. The company says it trains only on licensed material and never on user uploads.

Best for: Musicians who want to isolate parts and practise along with real songs on any device.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Splits songs into many stem types, not just vocals and backing
  • Practice tools like chord detection, speed and pitch change in the same app
  • Available on web, desktop, iOS and Android
  • States that it never trains on user uploads

Why people leave

  • Free tier limits monthly uploads and features
  • Full pricing is only visible after logging in
  • More practice-focused than a producer's batch stem tool
