About RipX DAW

RipX DAW, from the British company Hit'n'Mix, is a desktop audio editor built around stem separation. It splits a finished mix into six or more layers, such as vocals, drums, bass and other instruments, and then goes further than most separators by breaking each layer into individual notes. You can change the pitch, timing, level or effects of a single note inside a mixed recording, replace an instrument, add vocal harmonies, convert parts to MIDI, or detect key and chords. Producers use it for sampling and remixing, DJs for acapellas and mashups, and musicians and teachers for practice backing tracks and transcribing parts. Audio is stored in its own Rip format rather than as plain waveforms. It is sold as a one-time purchase in standard and PRO editions, with a 21-day free trial, and runs locally on Windows and macOS, so files never need uploading to a web service.

Best for: Producers, DJs and musicians who want to edit inside a mix, not only split it.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Note-level editing inside separated stems
  • Runs locally, with no uploads or per-minute credits
  • Audio-to-MIDI, harmonies and sound replacement built in
  • One-time purchase instead of a subscription

Why people leave

  • More complex than one-click web vocal removers
  • Uses its own Rip format, so stems must be exported to share
  • No mobile or web version
