About NodeBox
NodeBox 3 is a desktop app for making generative graphics and data visualisations by wiring nodes together instead of writing code. Each node does one job (draw a shape, copy it, import a spreadsheet, apply noise), and connecting them builds up a design you can tweak live. Every parameter can be animated, and results export as vector graphics, image sequences or movies. It can read data from formats such as Excel spreadsheets, which makes it handy for designers building one-off charts and posters. Experienced users can write their own nodes. NodeBox comes from the Experimental Media Research Group in Antwerp, is open source under the GPL and costs nothing. The current 3.1 release ships for Apple Silicon Macs and Windows; Linux users build from source. Compared with code sketchbooks it is easier for non-programmers, but it has a smaller community and fewer tutorials than Processing or TouchDesigner, and it is not aimed at real-time interactive installations.
Best for: Designers who want generative graphics and data visuals without learning to code.
