About OsmAnd
OsmAnd is an offline map and navigation app built on OpenStreetMap data, aimed at people who want detail and control. Maps are downloaded per country or region and work without a connection, with turn-by-turn voice guidance, lane hints, speed-limit warnings and automatic re-routing for driving, cycling and walking. Outdoor users get hiking and bike paths, contour lines, hill shading, trip recording to GPX and the ability to plan routes in advance. Plugins add OpenStreetMap editing, nautical charts, Wikipedia points of interest and more. The basic app is free with a limit on map downloads; Maps+ (or the separate OsmAnd+ app) unlocks unlimited downloads and hourly updates, and an OsmAnd Pro subscription adds cloud backup and extra features. The app is open source. Its large number of menus and settings make it slower to learn than Google Maps or Organic Maps.
Best for: Hikers, cyclists and drivers who want detailed offline maps and lots of settings.
