About Photomath
Photomath is a homework-help app for phones. You point the camera at a printed or handwritten problem, including word problems, or type it into the built-in calculator, and it returns the answer along with a worked, step-by-step explanation, sometimes with more than one method. It covers school math from elementary arithmetic through algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics and calculus. The app was started by Damir Sabol to help his own children and joined Google in 2023. The basic tier is free and includes step-by-step solutions; Photomath Plus is a subscription, billed monthly or yearly, that adds custom visual aids and extra explanations of how and why each step works. It runs on iOS and Android. Students use it to check work and get unstuck, and parents use it to follow along with homework, though teachers point out it makes copying answers easy.
Best for: Students and parents who want quick, step-by-step help with school math problems on a phone.
