About Playnite

Playnite is a desktop app that puts all of your PC and emulated games in one library. You link accounts such as Steam, Epic, GOG, Battle.net, EA and Ubisoft Connect, and it lists everything you own there, installed or not, next to games you add by hand and ROMs run through console emulators. It downloads covers and descriptions automatically, tracks playtime across all of them, and has a fullscreen mode built for controllers and TVs. The look can be reworked with community themes, and add-ons extend it with new library sources and features. Your library data stays on your own PC rather than on a remote server, and the app can run from a portable folder. Playnite is completely free with no paid tier, and its source is published under the MIT licence. It runs on Windows only, and it launches games through the original store clients rather than replacing them, so those still need to be installed.

Best for: Windows PC gamers with games spread across several stores and emulators who want one library.

Pros and cons

What works

  • One library for Steam, Epic, GOG, Battle.net, emulators and more
  • Fullscreen mode with full controller support
  • Themes and add-ons change both look and features
  • Free with no paywalled features, MIT licensed

Why people leave

  • Windows only
  • Store clients still need to be installed to download and launch games
  • Library integrations rely on add-ons that can break when stores change
