About Heroic Games Launcher

Heroic is an open-source launcher for games you own on the Epic Games Store, GOG and Amazon Prime Gaming. Epic and Amazon don't offer Linux clients and GOG Galaxy has no Linux version, so Heroic fills that gap; it also works on Windows and macOS for people who would rather not run three separate store apps. You sign in to each store, see your combined library, and install, update and launch games from one place. On Linux and macOS it downloads and manages Wine, Proton and Game Porting Toolkit builds for you and picks sensible settings per game. Extras include a download queue, cloud save sync for supported games, custom artwork and a controller-friendly console mode for TVs and the Steam Deck. It's free under the GPLv3, has no ads, and is funded by donations. It doesn't sell games itself, so purchases still happen on each store.

Best for: Linux and Steam Deck players with Epic, GOG or Amazon games who want one native launcher.

Pros and cons

What works

  • One library for Epic, GOG and Amazon games, even on Linux
  • Downloads and manages Wine and Proton builds for Windows games
  • Console mode works well on the Steam Deck and TVs
  • Free, open source and ad-free

Why people leave

  • Relies on unofficial store integrations that can break when stores change
  • Doesn't cover Steam, Ubisoft or EA libraries
  • Some store services, like Epic achievements or online features, may not work
