About Posteo

Posteo is an independent email provider in Berlin known for a simple deal: an ad-free account with email, calendar, address book and notes for a small fixed monthly fee. You can sign up without giving personal details and pay anonymously, including by cash in the post. It runs on green electricity, supports standard IMAP, POP, CalDAV and CardDAV so any mail app works, and offers optional encryption of your stored mailbox, address book and calendar, plus OpenPGP and S/MIME support. Extra storage can be bought in small increments. There is no free plan and no trial beyond the low first payment. The web interface is plain and functional rather than modern, Posteo does not offer custom domains (you use an @posteo address), and there are no dedicated mobile apps, so you rely on your phone's built-in client. For people who want inexpensive, privacy-respecting email without lock-in, it is a long-standing favourite.

Best for: People who want cheap, private email that works with any standard mail app.
