About Qtractor

Qtractor is an audio and MIDI multitrack sequencer written by Rui Nuno Capela, the developer behind the QjackCtl and other Linux audio utilities. It is built with the Qt framework and designed for Linux, using JACK for audio and ALSA for MIDI, and aims to give home studio musicians a straightforward recording and sequencing environment without the weight of larger DAWs. It supports non-destructive editing of audio and MIDI clips, a mixer with support for LV2, LADSPA, DSSI and VST plugins, MIDI editing, automation, loop recording and tempo maps. It is free software released under the GPL and is packaged by most Linux distributions and music-focused distros. The trade-offs are an interface that looks dated, a single main developer and a much smaller user base than Ardour, so documentation and tutorials are thin. It is a good fit for Linux users who want a light, traditional sequencer that plays well with JACK.

Best for: Linux musicians who want a light, JACK-based audio and MIDI sequencer.
