About Replicate
Replicate lets developers call AI models through an API without managing GPUs. Its catalogue is huge and community-driven: alongside official models from labs such as Google, OpenAI, Black Forest Labs and ByteDance, anyone can publish a model, so you'll find niche image restorers, upscalers and research models next to the big text-to-image and video generators. Teams can also fine-tune some models or package their own with Cog, Replicate's open-source tool, and deploy them on dedicated hardware that scales up and down with traffic. Billing is usage-based: public models are charged either per output (an image, a second of video, a token) or by the second of GPU time, and private models are billed for all the time they're online, including idle time, and per-model cost estimates appear on each model's page. It's strongest for media generation and experimentation; for high-volume LLM serving, specialised inference clouds are often cheaper and faster.
