About StartMail
StartMail is a paid email service from the team behind the Startpage search engine, based in the Netherlands. It focuses on privacy without making you manage keys: you can send password-protected encrypted messages to anyone, use built-in PGP, and create unlimited aliases, including disposable ones, to keep your real address away from sign-up forms. Data is stored on Dutch servers under Dutch and EU privacy law. There are no ads or tracking. It supports IMAP and SMTP, so desktop and mobile mail apps work, and it has its own web interface and mobile apps. Plans cover a personal account on a StartMail address or one custom domain, and a custom-domain plan for more domains; there is a short free trial but no free plan. Compared with Proton Mail it has fewer extra services and a smaller feature set, and stored mail is not end-to-end encrypted unless you use PGP.
Best for: People who want private email with lots of aliases and simple encryption.
