About Tavus
Tavus builds AI humans that talk with people over live video. Its main product is a conversational video interface: a lifelike face and voice, driven by an LLM, that can listen, see the user through the camera, answer in real time, present slides, show generated visuals, and join Zoom, Google Meet or Teams calls. Developers use the API or a no-code builder to create these agents (Tavus calls them PALs) for sales calls, interviews, patient intake, training and support, and can train custom replicas of a real person from a short recording. There is also a consumer account for chatting with ready-made PALs. Tavus trains its own rendering, perception and turn-taking models rather than wrapping a third-party avatar engine. Pricing starts with a free tier that includes some conversation minutes and stock faces; paid plans add more minutes, custom replicas and concurrency, with pay-as-you-go overage and custom enterprise contracts that cover compliance needs such as SOC 2 and HIPAA.
Best for: Product teams adding a live, talking AI face to sales, support, interview or training flows.

Pros and cons
What works
- Real-time two-way video conversations, not just pre-rendered clips
- Agents can join Zoom, Google Meet and Teams calls
- Bring your own LLM or use the built-in one
- SOC 2 and HIPAA coverage for regulated use
Why people leave
- Mostly an API product; little for people who just want to render a video
- Usage is billed by the minute, so costs grow with traffic
- Free tier minutes run out quickly in testing
