About 3DCoat
3DCoat, developed by Pilgway in Ukraine, bundles several stages of asset creation that otherwise need separate tools. Its voxel sculpting lets you build forms without worrying about topology, then switch to surface sculpting for detail; automatic and manual retopology tools produce clean low-poly meshes; UV tools unwrap them; and a PBR painting room with smart materials textures them for games and film. It is a popular companion to Blender, Maya and game engines, and there is also 3DCoatTextura for texturing only and 3DCoatPrint, a free version with voxel modeling for 3D printing. It is less dominant than ZBrush for sculpting or Substance Painter for texturing, and its interface has many rooms to learn. Licences include a perpetual personal licence with a year of updates, rent-to-own and subscriptions, plus a 30-day trial. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux.
Best for: Game and asset artists who want sculpting, retopology and texturing in one app.
