About Rhino
Rhino, or Rhinoceros, is a precise freeform NURBS modeler used by industrial designers, architects, jewellers, marine designers and product engineers. It can model curves, surfaces and solids of almost any shape with accuracy suitable for manufacturing, and reads and writes a long list of file formats, which makes it a common bridge between other tools. Grasshopper, the visual programming environment built into Rhino, is widely used for parametric and computational design, especially in architecture, and thousands of plug-ins add rendering, analysis and fabrication tools. Rhino is not a history-based parametric CAD system like SolidWorks, and its animation and rendering are basic without plug-ins. McNeel sells it as a perpetual licence with no maintenance fees, a single licence covering Windows and Mac, discounted upgrades and education pricing, plus a free 90-day evaluation.
Best for: Designers and architects who need precise freeform surfaces and parametric scripting.
