About ZBrush
ZBrush treats 3D models like digital clay, letting artists sculpt meshes with millions of polygons and paint detail directly on them. It is the standard tool for character and creature artists in games, film and collectibles, and is widely used for 3D-printed miniatures and jewellery. Tools such as DynaMesh, ZRemesher, ZSpheres and Sculptris Pro make it quick to block out forms and generate clean topology for animation. Its interface is famously unconventional, so newcomers need time to adjust, and it is a sculpting specialist rather than a full animation or rendering suite. Maxon sells it by subscription, alone or in Maxon One, and subscriptions include ZBrush for iPad; there is also a free version of the iPad app with a reduced brush set. The desktop version runs on Windows, including Windows on Arm, and macOS.
Best for: Character, creature and miniature artists who need extreme sculpting detail.
