About Akkoma

Akkoma is fediverse microblogging software forked from Pleroma, with faster-paced development and closer alignment with Misskey's expressive features. You can post with unlimited attachments, react to posts with custom emoji, write with Misskey-Flavoured Markdown for animated text effects, quote posts, create polls and edit posts as often as you like. It federates over ActivityPub with Mastodon, Pleroma, Misskey and other services, and supports the Mastodon frontend and client apps if you prefer that layout. The project says it is consistently 30 to 50 per cent faster than Pleroma for common operations, and it is lighter to run than Mastodon, which makes it popular for small community or personal servers. Akkoma is free and open source and can be self-hosted, or you can join an existing instance. Its community is small, documentation assumes some technical skill, and its culture leans towards playful, niche servers.

Best for: Small communities wanting a lighter, more expressive fediverse server.
