About Antidote

Antidote, made by Montreal's Druide informatique, bundles three things: a detailed corrector, a set of dictionaries (definitions, synonyms, conjugations, collocations and more) and language guides that explain the rules behind each correction. It is especially respected for French, which it handles as thoroughly as English, and it can translate between the two. Unlike most tools here it installs locally on Windows and Mac and plugs into Word, Outlook, browsers and many other apps, with a web and mobile version for subscribers. It is sold mainly as the Antidote+ subscription, for one or both languages and for individuals or families of up to five, while organisations can buy device licences or Antidote Web. Newer subscription features include AI-powered reformulation. There is no free plan. Antidote suits careful writers, translators and bilingual professionals who want explanations rather than one-click fixes; its depth comes with a steeper interface than browser checkers.

Best for: Bilingual English–French writers and translators who want thorough, explained corrections.
