About Cloudflare Zaraz

Cloudflare Zaraz is a tag manager built into Cloudflare. Instead of adding analytics tags, ad pixels and chat widgets as browser scripts, you configure them in the Cloudflare dashboard and Zaraz runs most of them server-side at Cloudflare's edge. The aim is faster pages and more control over what third parties receive. It includes triggers and actions much like Google Tag Manager, a web API for tracking custom events and e-commerce data, variables, a preview mode with version history, and a built-in consent management tool with IAB TCF support. Cloudflare recommends configuring tags directly in Zaraz rather than loading Google Tag Manager through it. It works best on sites already proxied through Cloudflare. Every Cloudflare account gets a monthly allowance of free events, and heavier use is billed per extra million events. It suits sites already on Cloudflare that want fewer browser scripts; teams that rely on a tag not yet supported as a native tool may need custom HTML or their own managed components.

Best for: Sites already on Cloudflare that want to cut browser-side tag scripts and handle consent in one place..

Pros and cons

What works

  • Runs many tools server-side, so fewer scripts load in the browser
  • One million events a month free on every Cloudflare account
  • Built-in consent management with IAB TCF support
  • Version history and preview mode for safe changes

Why people leave

  • Works best when the site is proxied through Cloudflare
  • Smaller library of native tool integrations than Google Tag Manager
  • Normal browser extensions can't see server-side tools, which makes debugging harder
