About Contentstack

Contentstack is a hosted headless CMS aimed primarily at large enterprises. Content is modelled as structured types and delivered through REST and GraphQL APIs to websites, apps and other channels, while editors get workflows, approvals, release management, localisation, roles and a visual builder. On top of the CMS it sells a broader digital experience platform with personalisation, a front-end hosting service and data and AI features, including agents that can automate content tasks. Historically it was sales-led with custom contracts, but it now lists a free plan for individuals and self-serve paid plans for small teams alongside enterprise pricing. It suits global brands with many markets and strict governance needs. The trade-offs are that its full value shows only at enterprise scale and price, smaller teams may find it more than they need, and it is hosted only, with no self-hosted version. It is a web app.

Best for: Global enterprises that need governance, workflows and many markets in one CMS.
