About Du Chinese
Du Chinese is a reading app for Mandarin learners. Its library has thousands of short lessons and graded stories, each written for a level from newbie to master, with native-speaker audio, adjustable pinyin, tap-to-translate for every word, and saved words that feed into flashcard review. Longer serialised stories, including adaptations of classic tales, give intermediate learners extended reading at a controlled vocabulary. It complements course apps such as HelloChinese, which teach the basics but offer little reading. The app is free to download with a selection of free lessons, and a subscription unlocks the full library. It is not a full course: there are no structured grammar lessons, writing practice or speaking exercises. It runs on iOS, Android and the web. Du Chinese suits learners who know some basics and want lots of level-appropriate reading and listening.
Best for: Mandarin learners past the basics who want graded reading with audio.
