About Edpuzzle

Edpuzzle lets teachers take a video, often from YouTube or one they record themselves, and drop questions, notes and audio comments at chosen points so students have to answer before they carry on. Teachers then see who watched, how far they got and which questions tripped them up, which makes it a common tool for flipped classrooms, homework and station rotations. Besides teacher-made lessons there is a shared library of lessons from other educators and a set of standards-aligned videos the company produces itself, called Edpuzzle Originals. A Live Mode runs a lesson on the classroom screen while students answer on their own devices, and a Student Projects feature lets pupils build their own video lessons. It runs in the browser with a Chrome extension for recording and adding YouTube videos, plus mobile apps for students. The free Basic plan caps how many lessons a teacher can keep, while the paid Pro Teacher plan and school or district licences remove that limit and add admin features.

Best for: Teachers who assign videos and want proof students watched and understood them.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Questions sit inside the video, so students can't skip ahead past them
  • Per-student viewing and answer data for each lesson
  • Large library of ready-made lessons plus Edpuzzle's own Originals
  • Live Mode and Student Projects cover in-class use, not just homework

Why people leave

  • Free Basic plan limits how many lessons you can store
  • Built around video, so it's weaker for live quiz games than Kahoot or Blooket
  • Aimed at schools; little fit for corporate training
