About Gerbera
Gerbera is a free UPnP media server that streams music, video and photos to UPnP and DLNA devices on your home network, such as TVs, PlayStations and phones. It continues the old MediaTomb project and keeps its strengths: automatic metadata extraction from media files, optional on-the-fly transcoding for devices that cannot play a format, support for external URLs, and JavaScript scripting so you can define exactly how the library is laid out on clients. Sensible defaults mean most people never touch the scripts. It runs on Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD and macOS across many processor architectures and is popular on home servers and NAS boxes, with a web interface for administration and Docker images available. It is open source and costs nothing. It is a pure DLNA server, so there are no dedicated apps, user accounts or remote streaming, and configuration through XML files feels technical.
Best for: Linux home-server users who want a lightweight, scriptable DLNA server.
