About HopToDesk

HopToDesk is a remote access and support tool for screen sharing, remote control, file transfer and chat between computers and phones. The client is free for both personal and commercial use with no time limits, its source code is public, and all session traffic is end-to-end encrypted. It connects through firewalls without port forwarding and can run as a portable app, with installation needed only for unattended access across reboots. Clients cover Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, ChromeOS and Raspberry Pi, and there is a browser-based web client. Organisations can self-host their own relay network. The paid side is an online dashboard for managing fleets: device monitoring, unattended access, a built-in help desk with tickets, session recording, custom-branded clients and SSO. It has a free tier for a few devices and paid plans priced per device rather than per technician. It suits people leaving TeamViewer or AnyDesk over commercial-use limits, and small IT teams and MSPs.

Best for: Individuals and small IT teams wanting free, encrypted remote support without commercial-use limits.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Client is free for commercial use with no time limits
  • End-to-end encryption for screens, chat and file transfers
  • Wide platform support, including Raspberry Pi and a web client
  • Dashboard plans are priced per device, not per technician

Why people leave

  • Monitoring and help desk need the dashboard; over 3 devices needs a paid plan
  • Smaller company and community than TeamViewer or AnyDesk
  • The company says it doesn't yet hold its own SOC 2 or ISO certification
