About IFTTT

IFTTT, short for 'If This Then That', is one of the oldest consumer automation services. Its automations, called Applets, link a trigger in one service to actions in others: save Instagram photos to Dropbox, turn on smart lights at sunset, log your location to a spreadsheet, or get a phone notification when an RSS feed updates. It is especially strong for smart-home devices and consumer services, with integrations for many brands of lights, thermostats, cameras and voice assistants, and it has mobile apps for location- and phone-based triggers. A free plan allows a couple of Applets, while low-cost paid plans add more Applets, multi-step actions, filter code, faster checks and AI features. Compared with Zapier or Make, it is less suited to business workflows: logic is limited, there are fewer business apps, and debugging is basic. It runs in the browser with iOS and Android apps. It suits individuals and hobbyists who want small personal automations cheaply.

Best for: Individuals automating smart-home gadgets and personal apps.
