About Katalon Studio

Katalon Studio is a test automation IDE that covers API testing alongside web, mobile and Windows desktop testing. For APIs you can import Postman, OpenAPI or WSDL definitions, build REST and SOAP requests, add assertions and chain them into test suites, mixing recorded or codeless steps with Groovy scripts. Tests run locally, in CI through the Runtime Engine, or in Katalon's cloud, and reports feed into its TestOps platform. Newer versions add AI help for writing tests and an MCP connection for coding agents. A free version for a single tester working locally has no time limit, and paid Professional and Enterprise plans, billed per seat per year, add desktop testing, collaboration, SSO, on-premises options and more; new installs start with a 30-day Enterprise trial. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. The trade-offs are cost at scale and a heavy tool if all you need is to send a few requests. It suits QA teams who want API tests in the same tool as UI tests.
