About Lambda

Lambda is a cloud provider that only does AI compute. Developers can launch on-demand NVIDIA GPU instances (from a single A10 or A6000 up to 8x B200 machines) from a web console with no contract, billed by the hour per GPU. Teams that need more can book 1-Click Clusters of 16 to 2,000+ GPUs for a few weeks to a year, and the largest customers reserve dedicated superclusters. Instances come with Lambda Stack, the company's preinstalled bundle of drivers, CUDA and common deep-learning frameworks, so a PyTorch job can start straight away. It has a reputation for straightforward, published pricing and an interface aimed at ML engineers rather than general cloud admins. The trade-off is a narrow menu: there are no managed databases or the long list of services a hyperscaler offers, and popular instance types can be sold out. It is used by researchers, startups and enterprises training and serving models.

Best for: ML engineers who want plain, published GPU pricing and ready-to-use deep-learning images.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Clear published per-GPU hourly prices
  • Preinstalled drivers and frameworks via Lambda Stack
  • Scales from one GPU to reserved multi-thousand-GPU clusters

Why people leave

  • Popular instance types are often out of stock
  • Few services beyond compute and storage
  • No cheap consumer-grade GPUs like the RTX 4090
