About Mailtrap

Mailtrap started as a fake SMTP server for developers: point your staging app at it and every outgoing email lands in a shared test inbox instead of a customer's mailbox. That Email Sandbox is still a core product, with HTML and CSS checks, spam scoring, previews and an API for automated QA. Mailtrap has since added a production Email API and SMTP relay for transactional and bulk email, with separate streams, logs, analytics, dedicated IPs on higher tiers and SDKs for common languages, plus a basic marketing campaign tool and inbound email for AI agents. The appeal is having testing and sending under one account, so the same templates move from staging to production. Sending and testing are priced separately: each has a free plan for small volumes, then monthly tiers by email volume or test-email count. It suits product teams and agencies that send app email and want a safe way to test it; teams needing heavy marketing automation will want a dedicated tool.

Best for: Developers and QA teams who want email testing and transactional sending from one service.
