About Mockoon

Mockoon is an open-source tool for creating mock APIs, which is often the other half of API testing: instead of sending requests to a real server, you stand up a fake one that answers the way you need. In the desktop app you define routes for GET, POST and other methods, return JSON or files with dynamic templating and Faker data, add rules, delays and error responses, proxy unknown routes to a real backend, import OpenAPI specs and record live traffic to generate mocks automatically. The CLI runs the same mocks headlessly in CI pipelines or Docker. It needs no account, keeps data on your machine and does not track your mock traffic. The app and CLI are free under the MIT licence for Mac, Windows and Linux; Mockoon Pro, a self-hosted paid service, adds team collaboration and data sync. The trade-offs are that it is a mocking tool, not a request client, and team features need the paid tier. It suits developers and testers who need reliable fake APIs.

Best for: Developers and testers who need local mock APIs for development and CI.
