About MongoDB Compass

MongoDB Compass is the official graphical client from MongoDB. It connects to local deployments or MongoDB Atlas and lets you browse databases and collections, view documents as lists, tables or JSON, insert and edit documents, and build queries with a filter bar instead of writing shell syntax. Its aggregation pipeline builder shows the output of each stage as you add it, the schema tab samples documents to show field types and value distributions, and there are tools for indexes, validation rules, explain plans, import and export of CSV and JSON, and an embedded mongosh shell. Recent versions add AI features that turn natural-language requests into queries. Compass is free to use and source-available, running on macOS, Windows and Linux. It covers MongoDB only and can feel slow with very large collections, and power users often add a commercial IDE for SQL querying, code generation or heavy data migration.

Best for: MongoDB developers who want the official, free GUI for queries and aggregations.
