About MySQL Workbench
MySQL Workbench is the official graphical tool for MySQL from Oracle. The current generation was rebuilt on the MySQL Shell foundation and replaces both the older Workbench releases, which reached end of life, and the discontinued MySQL Shell for VS Code. It combines a SQL script editor and SQL notebooks that also support JavaScript and TypeScript, server administration for users, grants, status and configuration, performance reports and a redesigned visual explain for understanding query plans, data modelling, and migration and backup tooling, including MySQL Enterprise Backup integration and a migration assistant for Oracle's HeatWave cloud. It is available for Windows, macOS and several Linux distributions. The Community edition is open source under the GPL and free to download; some features tie into paid MySQL Enterprise products. It is MySQL-specific, so it is not a general database client, and the large rewrite means some workflows from the older version have changed.
Best for: MySQL developers and DBAs who want the official, free tool from Oracle.
