About Monodraw
Monodraw is an indie Mac app from Helftone for making diagrams out of text characters. You draw boxes, lines, arrows, tables, trees, mind maps and entity-relationship diagrams (with crow's foot notation) using a normal drawing interface, and the result is plain text you can paste into code comments, README files, terminal output or commit messages, where images don't work. It also includes text banners in many fonts. The direct-download version ships a command-line tool for generating diagrams automatically, for example as part of building docs. It is a one-time purchase at a low price, with a free trial and educational pricing, and requires macOS 11 or later. It is Mac-only and deliberately limited to monospaced text output, so it complements rather than replaces a normal diagram editor.
Best for: Developers who want neat text diagrams for code comments and READMEs.
