About Mumble

Mumble is an open-source voice chat application known for very low latency and high audio quality. It uses a client and server model: people connect to a Mumble server, made up of channels with an extensive permission system, which you host yourself with the server component (often called Murmur) or rent from a hosting provider. Features include positional audio for games, push-to-talk, encrypted connections, a multi-channel recorder that podcasters use, and server APIs for bots and integrations with existing user databases. It is popular with gaming communities that run large voice sessions, as well as hobby radio users and some workplaces. Text chat is basic and the interface looks dated, but everything is free. Clients run on Windows, macOS and Linux, with third-party mobile apps. It suits groups that want free, private, self-hosted voice chat.

Best for: Gaming groups and communities that want free, low-latency voice on their own server.
