About Mwmbl

Mwmbl (pronounced "mumble") is a small non-profit web search engine that is fully open source and independent of the big indexes. Volunteers help crawl the web and can curate results directly, nudging good pages up and spam down, in the spirit of a wiki for search. It has no ads, no tracking and no investors, and is funded by donations. Results are fast but limited: the index is tiny compared with commercial engines, so it works best for well-known sites and technical topics, and is better seen as a project to support and help build than a daily driver. The code is AGPL-3.0 licensed on GitHub. It runs in any browser, and signing in lets you contribute to curation and its newer seed search features.

Best for: Open-source supporters who want to help build a community-run search index.
