About OnionMedia X

OnionMedia X is a free desktop app that combines a video downloader and a media converter in one window. The download side uses yt-dlp, so it handles YouTube and many other sites; it has a built-in YouTube search, a download queue, a choice of resolution or audio only, and can re-encode downloads to H.264 for compatibility. The converter side uses FFmpeg to re-encode video and audio, change resolution, aspect ratio, bitrate and frame rate, trim clips and edit file tags, with hardware-accelerated video encoding where your GPU supports it. It is the cross-platform port of the original Windows OnionMedia app, rebuilt with the Avalonia UI framework on .NET, and is published on GitHub releases and Flathub for Windows and Linux. It is open source under the AGPL-3.0 licence and costs nothing. It is aimed at people who want a point-and-click front end rather than typing yt-dlp or FFmpeg commands, though it offers fewer options than either tool on the command line.

Best for: Windows and Linux users who want downloading and converting video in one free GUI.
