About OpenCode
OpenCode is an open-source coding agent from the team behind SST. It started as a terminal interface and is now also available as a desktop app, a web app and IDE extensions. It can explore a codebase, plan changes, edit files and run commands, and it supports multiple sessions in parallel, shareable session links, LSP integration and custom agents and commands. Its standout feature is provider choice: through Models.dev it connects to dozens of providers, including local models, and it can use existing subscriptions such as ChatGPT or GitHub Copilot. It also ships with a set of free models that work without creating an account, and offers optional paid model access through its own Zen and Go services. The agent itself is free to use. It has become one of the most popular open-source alternatives to Claude Code, and suits developers who like terminal tools but want to avoid lock-in to one model vendor.
Best for: Terminal-first developers who want an open-source agent and freedom to switch models.
