About Petrichor
Petrichor is a native macOS music player for people who keep their own collection of audio files rather than streaming. You point it at your music folders and it builds a library from the track tags that you can browse by artist, album artist, composer, genre, decade or year. A Discover view borrows ideas from streaming apps, such as recently played, most loved and never-played tracks, but draws only on music you already own. It reads more than 40 audio formats, including FLAC, ALAC, DSD, Opus and WavPack, and shows bit depth and sample rate from the file itself. Extras include internet radio, a multi-band equalizer with stereo widening, gapless playback, a mini player and a full-window now-playing view with lyrics. It never edits your files, has no analytics, and keeps online extras such as lyrics and scrobbling off until you turn them on. Petrichor is free, MIT-licensed and made by one developer; it needs macOS 14 or later.
Best for: Mac users with a local music collection who want a modern, private player instead of Apple Music.
