About Photomyne

Photomyne turns a phone into a scanner for printed photos. You point the camera at an album page and it detects, crops and rotates each photo separately, corrects perspective and restores faded colour. Separate apps handle slides, film negatives and children's artwork. Once scanned, photos can be sorted into albums, tagged with names, places and dates, given text or audio notes, and paired with the handwriting on the back. There are also tools to sharpen faces and colourise black-and-white shots, with AI restoration sold as extra credits. The free version lets you scan with ads; a membership (monthly, yearly or a three-year one-time payment) removes ads and adds cloud backup and access on a computer. It's aimed at families digitising boxes of old prints who want speed and organisation more than flatbed-scanner quality. It runs on iOS and Android, with a web viewer.

Best for: Families digitising boxes of old prints and albums quickly with a phone.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Detects and crops several photos from one album page
  • Separate apps for slides, negatives and kids' art
  • Tag people, places and dates and attach the back of a photo

Why people leave

  • Free version shows ads and lacks cloud backup
  • AI restoration needs credits bought on top of the membership
  • Phone captures can't match a good flatbed scanner for detail
