About VueScan

VueScan is a scanning app from Hamrick Software that replaces the software that came with a scanner. Its best-known trick is built-in drivers: the developer has reverse-engineered thousands of flatbed, document and film scanners, so models the manufacturer stopped supporting on modern Windows or macOS keep working. It handles document feeders and duplex scanning, film and slide scanning with infrared dust removal on supported hardware, colour restoration, deskewing, blank page removal, OCR and output to PDF, TIFF and JPEG. It runs on Windows, macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon) and Linux. The free trial works fully but watermarks scans; a paid licence removes that, with a Standard edition for documents and photos and a Professional edition that adds raw output, film features and unlimited updates. The interface is dense and technical, which suits enthusiasts more than casual users.

Best for: Owners of older or unsupported scanners, and anyone scanning film or slides at home.
