About Quick Assist

Quick Assist is Microsoft's own screen-sharing and remote control tool for Windows 10 and 11. The helper signs in with a Microsoft account and generates a short security code; the person needing help opens Quick Assist, types the code and chooses whether to share their screen only or hand over full control. Nothing has to be bought, and on Windows 11 it is usually already installed, which makes it handy for helping relatives or for internal IT teams who don't want another third-party agent on every PC. It is deliberately narrow: there is no unattended access, no file-transfer manager, no session history and no support for Macs or phones. Organisations wanting more controls can move to Microsoft's paid Remote Help add-on for Intune. Like other remote tools it is used by scammers, so Microsoft adds warnings, and only people who contacted the helper themselves should accept a session.

Best for: Helping a friend or colleague on Windows without installing anything extra.
