About Recraft

Recraft is aimed at graphic design rather than general art. Its models generate both raster images and editable vector graphics, so you can produce icons, logos, illustrations and patterns that export cleanly to SVG. You can define styles from reference images to keep a brand look consistent, then edit on an infinite canvas with tools for vectorising, background removal, inpainting, outpainting and upscaling. Recraft's own models handle text in images well, and other providers' models are available too. A free plan exists, but images made on it are owned by Recraft, shown publicly and not licensed for commercial use. Paid plans grant full ownership and keep images private, with monthly credits and top-ups. There is also a REST API priced per image. It suits designers, marketers and small brands making on-brand assets.

Best for: Designers who need vector graphics, icons and on-brand illustrations.

What works

Generates editable vector graphics, not just pixels
Custom styles keep a brand look consistent
Paid plans grant full ownership and commercial rights

Why people leave

Free-plan images belong to Recraft and are public
Unused monthly credits don't roll over
Less suited to photoreal art than general-purpose tools
