About Seeking Alpha
Seeking Alpha is an investing research site focused on US-listed stocks and ETFs. Its core is a large library of analysis articles written by outside contributors, from professional fund managers to individual investors, which editors review before publishing and readers then debate in the comments. Around that it offers market news, earnings call transcripts, dividend data, stock and ETF screeners, portfolio tracking and its own Quant ratings that score stocks on value, growth, momentum and other factors. A free account gives news, some articles and newsletters; most ratings, full article access and deeper data sit behind the Premium and Pro subscriptions, and separate Alpha Picks and third-party Investing Groups cost extra. It suits self-directed investors who want many opinions on a stock rather than a single brokerage research note. It runs on the web with iOS and Android apps.
Best for: Self-directed US stock investors who want many analyst opinions, ratings and transcripts in one place.
Pros and cons
What works
- Very broad coverage, including small caps banks don't follow
- Earnings call transcripts and dividend data in one place
- Quant ratings give a quick factor-based view of a stock
- Comment threads surface counter-arguments to each article
Why people leave
- Most ratings and full articles need a paid subscription
- Article quality varies because contributors are outside writers
- Mainly US stocks and ETFs; thin on other markets
