About ShareX
ShareX is a free, open-source capture tool for Windows that has built up a huge feature list over more than a decade. Beyond region, window and scrolling screenshots, it records the screen to video or GIF using FFmpeg, runs OCR on captured text, and can chain after-capture actions such as adding effects, watermarking, copying and uploading. Its standout feature is uploading: captures can go automatically to dozens of destinations, including image hosts, cloud storage like Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage and Cloudflare R2, or a custom uploader you define. There are also tools such as a colour picker, ruler, QR code reader and hash checker. It is distributed through its website, the Microsoft Store and Steam. The downside is complexity: the settings are deep and the interface is crowded, and it only runs on Windows. There is no built-in video editor, so recordings are for quick sharing rather than produced content.
Best for: Windows power users who want free capture with automated upload workflows.
